The Loft Puppet Company is a live entertainment company that was founded in May 2016. The company’s work is of an experimental nature and what started as a puppet theatre company has now grown into props- and costume making as well as set building, and hosting workshops. Up until now the team has successfully collaborated with local and international artists, which include the talented choir, The Abonwabisi Brothers; the German puppeteer, Christoph Levermann, and the British puppeteer and director, Oliver James Hymans.
The team consists of three versatile creatives: Andrico Goosen, Anoecha Krüger and Marelize Viljoen. The company also hosts an in-house musician, Talita Beyl, and a theatre technician, Jako Beyleveld.
Here in the heart of the winelands, it is not only their shared love for performance that brought them together, but also their determination to support a sustainable and transformative growth in the arts and culture industry. This is all held together by the company’s mission statement which states:
The Loft Puppet Company is a human and animal rights organisation that makes use of the art of puppetry to create a culturally and educational inclusive and diverse theatre experience, to encourage and motivate social change. The company also creates an environment in South Africa, where young artists can work together to develop their craft and collaborate with other artists.
